The Office, New Companions, Tyler, Humility

Hello everyone!

These past couple of weeks have been a roller coaster for sure!

The biggest change is that I work in the office in the mornings now helping out with all things technology about the mission. It's really crazy. I have my own sim card and laptop. I also am not required to be within sight and sound of my companion when I'm in the office or the church. And I'm in a trio with 2 of my past zone leaders! It's insane and pretty fun. It's pretty cool learning about all the graphs and data the mission collects and helping with moderating the Facebook page.

We also are in a pretty new area so we don't have a lot of friends that we're teaching yet. But! We have this recovery/assisted living home for people who are recovering from some injury and need some assistance to do basic things. All the staff loves us there and it's owned by a member so we've been trying to teach some of the people there and bring them to church. We have to sort through those who are and aren't accountable enough to be baptized. We're teaching this brother named Tyler from that place and he just wanted some community and to be taught so bad he was crying. He seemed accountable enough so we invited him to church and he wanted to go! So we had one of our members take him and he has a wheelchair so we helped with that and he got in the van okay, and we were off to church. We wheeled him into church and parked him in the back about 15 minutes before church started. Tyler now begins to freak out. He kept saying everyone else were so nice and that he didn't belong here. And then his dementia (that we didn't know about) started to kick in and he didn't know why he was there and then he said he was having trouble breathing and we were like ok we gotta get you back. So we got him back into the van and the member dropped him back off before church started. It was so sad because he really wanted to go and then his brain didn't let him! Prayers for Tyler.

Something I've been really focusing on this week is humility. You cannot grow if you are prideful! In any aspect, if you want to grow you need to humble yourself. I found a really good quote earlier this week about humility but I can't find it now. But I love this quote "The minute we think that pride is no longer a problem is the minute it is a problem." - The Divine Gift of Forgiveness by Elder Andersen. I love this quote because it helps teach that everyone needs to be more humble. There is never a time when you are sufficiently humble in this life. Humility to me is turning over my will to God's. C.S Lewis said "Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less." We all have talents and abilities that we can be confident in but we have to acknowledge that they come from God and not our own will somehow. I also love this quote "Pride is incompatible with progress; disunity is impossible between exalted beings" (Gospel Topics Essays, Becoming Like God). Humility is crucial if we are to grow and change our natural selves to live as Jesus did.

But overall, I'm doing well. I'm still trying to figure out this new area and assignment so I'm still pretty lost but I love God, I know His gospel has been restored, and that the Book of Mormon is true! What else matters?

- Elder Dahl

Oh we also got to help with the new missionaries coming in and it was so weird to be in the mission home again and remember what it was like when I was in their shoes! They are awesome!
