Mission Tour, Mikayla's Baptism, Christmas

A lot has happened since last time I emailed. The first big thing is we had a mission tour with Elder Wada and Elder Casillas. I don't think I talked about that last time. But it was super crazy. Basically, we were just like their bodyguards the whole time. If they needed anything, we were just there to help them out. It was so cool. We got to be with them one-on-one, just asking them questions. And the biggest thing they talked about, that I took away, was feasting on the scriptures, and how you can take any chapter and just break it down and apply every couple words to your life, and if you do that, then the scriptures will mean so much more. You'll be able to receive so much revelation. It's been pretty cool, Like 1 Nephi 1:1-- you can talk about your parents, think about your parents and how they've taught you. Think about how you've been raised and how it's affected you. It's pretty incredible. So the mission tour was really, really awesome. We didn't get a lot of sleep which was pretty tough but it's okay.

Mikayla is one of the coolest people I've ever met. We've been teaching her for probably two weeks. Her Bishop and his wife actually found her and asked her if she wanted to meet with the missionaries,  and she was like, "Sure!" And she just loves everything about the gospel. We were teaching her for about a week, and then our bishop's wife said, "I want to ask her if she wants to be baptized," and so she did, and then she ended up moving her date up. So she was set for January 4th, and Bishop's wife, Sister Barker, she said she woke up at six in the morning, inspired, and she called Mikayla at six in the morning and said, hey, do you want to be baptized on Christmas day? And then we get a call at seven from Sister Barker. She says, "Elders, what do you think about a white Christmas?" And so that was like, four days away. So, we had to teach her everything in four days. It was crazy, but she is one of the most converted people I know. She just loves the gospel and listens so intently and wants it for her son as well. Pretty cool.

So she ended up getting baptized on Christmas. We spent Christmas morning at the Barkers-- at the Bishop's house-- until like 12, and then we went to fill up the font, then we had our baptism, and then we went to this family, the Handleys, and had a blast with them. It was an incredible Christmas. We were so blessed, and so many people gave us gifts. I was not expecting that, especially in our new ward-- they didn't even know us, and they gave us gifts. It was awesome. And one of the best parts is our mission president took us out to a midnight mass-- well it was a 10:30 mass, but it ended at midnight. And we just spent until 1:30 in the morning with him just talking, and we had some gifts that we exchanged. We made him a video of all the missionaries saying what they loved about him and Sister Kerr. It was really special-- pretty cool experience. But yeah, that was my week.

One thing I've been learning is that not everything is as important as we make it out to be right when it happens. There are some things that just do not matter as much. And it takes that eternal perspective to really know what things to spend your time focusing on. And it's a pretty hard skill, I'm learning. But it's important. We got to go to the temple this week and it was really enlightening and insightful. It helped me to kind of take that step back, to think a little bit more Celestial. So, I invite you all to go to the temple. Visit the grounds. Just be in that area and think about what God wants for you. It would be pretty cool. Hope you all had a great Christmas as well.
